How to lift QR scan rate intentionally

Use placement, CTA copy and visual cues to collect more feedback at the same review volume.

Updated:

A QR being printed is not the same as it being scanned. Scan rate (over impressions) sits between 5-15% in most businesses; with the right tweaks it lifts comfortably to 25%.

The best QR placement is chosen from the customer’s point of view, not the designer’s. The QR should be visible the moment the phone comes out — saying no should not require an additional decision.

Placement intuition

Customers reach for their phone in three moments: looking at the menu, paying the bill, waiting in line. The QR should be visible in at least two of these.

Call to action

Instead of “Scan the QR”, communicate a benefit: “Share your experience in 20 seconds — it reaches our team.” Specific timing builds trust; abstract “share your thoughts” feels weak.

Visual support

  • At least 1 cm clear space around the QR.
  • Keep the logo small enough to not disturb the QR.
  • Strong dark/light contrast.
  • Avoid glossy reflective foreground.
  • Add gentle lighting in dim spaces.

A/B testing

Run CTA A for one week and CTA B the next. Compare scan counts in the panel. Most tests show a clear winner and the decision becomes data-driven.

The worst way to ask for a review is to beg; the best is to make easier something the customer already wants to do.
These techniques aim to lift scan rate, not steer the customer toward a specific star count. Star coercion, fake reviews or selective incentives violate Google’s user contribution policies and are not supported by Buaze.

Kontrol listesi / Checklist

  • Placement tested from the customer’s seat.
  • CTA carries a specific benefit.
  • At least 1 cm clear space around the QR.
  • Sufficient contrast.
  • 2-week A/B test planned.
  • Scan count tracked weekly.
  • Performance re-measured after relocation.

SSS / FAQ

What scan rate should I expect?

Industry averages sit at 10-15%. Below 5% suggests a placement or CTA problem; above 25% indicates a strong overall flow.

Is forcing a review legal?

No. Google’s contribution policy and similar platform rules prohibit forced reviews or star coercion. Buaze does not support such flows.

Will one CTA work everywhere?

No. It varies by location, customer profile and channel. Testing is the only reliable method.

Should I commission a custom QR design?

A brand-aware design helps, but readability comes before design.
